Trail notes

Know before you go

The White Rim traces a sandstone shelf a thousand feet below Island in the Sky and a thousand above the Green and Colorado. Permits are required for overnight trips and campsites are assigned, so the day structure is baked in: Shafer's stacked switchbacks drop you onto the bench, Murphy Hogback and Hardscrabble provide the pucker, and the Mineral Bottom switchbacks climb you back out. No water, no fuel, no services. Everything rides with you.
