Trail notes
The Magruder Corridor is a single-lane ribbon between the Selway-Bitterroot and Frank Church-River of No Return Wildernesses: nearly four million roadless acres split by one dirt road. Nothing about the driving is extreme; everything about the setting is. There is no fuel, no services, and no cell coverage for the entire crossing (129 miles pump-to-pump from Elk City to Darby), fire season can close it overnight, and a breakdown here is a genuine expedition problem. Named for a packer murdered on the route in 1863.
